First time / New favorite! This artful plate pays tribute to an amazing dinner I had Florida recently. I recreated it when I got home and If I’m honest, mine’s better! 👌🏼

I like to share a recipes here once in a while that draw us into slowness and reverent living. This one hits the high notes.

It’s a plum-glazed ginger chicken, over cilantro-lime black beans & rice with tropical pico (the rainbow part). It has a little sweet-n-sour angle, with the beans & rice, grounding it, and the pico delivering a bright zing.

Not at all hard to make, but the kind of recipe needs some sit at the table time for.

It’s the pico that calls for this - it’s really the star of the show with a very rogue mix of colors, textures and flavors. I love unexpected friendships.

I suppose I put in a solid hour of methodical tiny chopping to achieve my fantastic little rainbow side. It was the best part.

There’s plenty of nights when I need to make something quick + easy. And then there’s times when it’s nice to sit at the table and slow down and be methodical about food preparation. My son sat with me and we chatted and watched the bowl get prettier and prettier…. I have this weird rule about not tasting anything when I’m doing this so that the anticipation and mystery build ;)

There’s something special about falling in love with a dish the first time you make it. It’s a lifetime love you can take to the bank…..😍 Then every time you make it thereafter, especially with slow food, it’s like a far away friend coming to visit.

Warm wading with coffee. Heavenly.

I’m a morning person. My brain, upon waking, is always ready to take in the world. I enjoy a kind of mental clarity between 5am and 8am that I simply cannot access at other times. Ever.

It’s the penultimate window of sacred balance between being wakeful and being “on” for the world. It feels like being in my own VIP lounge (at least cognitively) and I savor it.

It’s a time when I sit in empty presence, receive, observe, think with crystal clarity…. So I often go right for my computer and write. Yes, even on vacation. These are never things I want to escape - they are cherished parts of my time here.

But I caught myself today, pressed pause and took my coffee outside. Into the waves and breeze just steps from my door. We’ve had some cooler, windy mornings since arriving, but this one was still and balmy and called me.

There was a moment when a “shoulding” part of me rose up, chiding for my internal orientation in this externally glorious place. But then the gift came through:

What a blessing it is to cherish inward time. To be at peace with myself. To live without compulsion to escape my thoughts and inner state.

Not everything in my world is as I’d like it to be. I have irons in the fire on many fronts - work, health, relationships. But there’s no sense of incompleteness. None.

This is the result of fusing IFS (parts work) with sacred feminine spirituality. They’ve come together in my own life-navigating practice in a way that’s so supportive. And I’m so grateful to have leaned to care for myself in such a rich way that neither could provide alone.

What a moment - realizing that the most beautiful surroundings, literal paradise, does not exist in polarization to my inner sanctuary. To know that they are equal, even if not the same.

I’m a Vermonter at heart but I can’t say I mind skipping out on the end of February.

Whiting Sterling Silver Footed Centerpiece Bowl 55.5oz 13” Antique Compote 1941

🏈 I guess it’s a big day in sports…(?) THIS is my sport: hunting treasure. I discovered this magnificent sterling centerpiece dish while gallivanting with my good luck charm, @kelly.ccreations.16 last week.

This is such a special piece. It’s about 13 inches across and sits on pretty little floral feet with a gorgeous fluted detail all around. I adore the beautifully inscribed message on the bottom, a 25th wedding celebration gift.

Made by Whiting Co. and gifted in 1941, this magnificent piece stood out to me as a beautiful altar base. However, it turns out it is solid sterling, so I will be selling her on her own to a collector, for sure.

William Morris x Wes Anderson? Somehow it just works.

Art Garmentry project underway featuring everyone’s favorite William Morris pattern: ‘Strawberry Thief’.

The center fabric on this crazy quilt block is a William Morris print on a fine lawn cotton by @libertylondon. I’ve had some yardage of this print in my text collection for many years. I used it in a quilt long ago, but right now it’s featuring prominently in a wearable art project that I will share here soon.

This lil’ Moondoggie is a curious creature. And despite two bursting baskets of antlers, horns, bones, puzzles & stuffies… an altar reset is an event of pure fascination.

Is my sacred space full of treasure and rare, special things? Yes.

Is my fur bestie allowed to wonder and be charmed? Also, yes.

Lunabelle is a thinker and she likes to be involved in all the things I’m doing. It’s too much work to disallow her, not that I would.

She’s incredibly gentle so I let her enjoy the sensory experience of all my little treasures. Sniff. Lick. Taste. Trade back for half-dismembered purple dragon.

This little sea urchin, on this moon’s altar for its womb-like qualities & to channel with the sea, was top tier for Lu. She was enrapt.

She had to revert to her own collection after a fashion but she sat so quiet & polite, craning her neck and sniffing so gently…. I finally gave in and let her have a proper look.

Saturday morning new moon vibes. And maybe, just maybe, I’ll finally take the tree down. No promises…

Missing my full collection of altar curio (most of which is in storage). But as luck would have it, as we move into a new year, my next archetype is abundant in her energy throughout my home.

These images are from two years back and lately I’ve been dearly missing my beautiful tall windows and my built-in altar space in the 16” thick walls of my old bedroom, overlooking the street.

In the depth of winter, remembering the new beginnings that are starting in the dark and waiting to be cultivated as an important practice. Right in the middle of the dark, seeds stir and life sparks, readying to gestate in the great mother, who is almost here.

Antique Irish Linen, hand-dyed in watery blues.

Revisiting some footage of my all-time favorite textile dyeing project. This antique Irish linen is the softest, silkiest most fluid fabric I’ve ever held in my hands. It is so very like silk but heavier.

The damask pattern is one of broad stripes and big polkadots, woven in Ireland on traditional looms by the best of the best, circa 1890’s. The overlay of blue dyes on this fabric, blended with its satiny nature, makes it look truly like water when it moves.

And that hand embroidered incredible crest you see at the end? That was the family insignia that would have been stitched into all of the finery that dressed the household’s tables. Exquisite beauty handed down through generations.

A few years later, I still haven’t made the kimono out of this that it is intended for, but I think this may be the year.

Lots brewing with handmade garmentry, rare vintage, soulful project kits, and more.

Stay tuned, loves. Despite all the garbage brewing in the world, 2026 still feels like a big turning of the page.

Antique Irish Linen, hand-dyed in watery blues.

Revisiting some footage of my all-time favorite textile dyeing project. This antique Irish linen is the softest, silkiest most fluid fabric I’ve ever held in my hands. It is so very like silk but heavier.

Throwback to a true gem among my vintage collection. This superfine, daffodil-yellow wool coat, c. 1968, was such a stellar piece.

Sold a few years ago, this one lingered in the studio for ages before I managed to part with it. The hand of the wool was impeccable and the structure was so classic.

I’ve been tapping into some small caches of vintage treasure I have in storage and will be listing some new beauties soon.

Vegan lasagna: maybe the most love-infused dish I know how to make. What’s not seasonal about that? It’s also gluten-free, grain free and dairy free. But don’t let that fool you…

I made a few pans of this lasagna last week for lunch with a very dear old friend at my place, one to send home with her & one for a little family gathering at my parent’s new home.

I’m not vegan or a vegetarian, but sometimes my body just craves simplicity and the clandestine energy of food not involving other living beings. Maybe some of you relate.

But even as a seventh generation Vermonter, the elder hunters in my family, such as my father, who have filled more freezers with venison then you could count… they LOVE this!

If you don’t know anything about cashew ricotta, you my love are in for a treat. It takes some time to make but when finished you have this velvety, rich & creamy layer to go in this recipe (or others) that truly dazzles.

Paired with very thin slices of zucchini, summer squash, and the quiet star of this dish, sweet potatoes, this all melts down into a really hardy, filling recipe that can hold its own as an entrée or be serve served as a really elevated side.

I’ll post my way of making this shortly. Credit for the original recipe to the queen of loving intention, @mandymisagal and her wife, my dear cousin, @galadrieltalk. My food heroines and two of my favorite people.

Apart from the delicious outcome, making this recipe can be such a ritual and experience of communion. It’s a wonderful thing to sit at the table and visit over while slicing and prepping.

It’s also a marvelous, meditative solo activity, as it was for me (with my Luna, of course) on a 16 hour overnight shift, listening to Christmas carols and watching snow fall.

I noticed this year. The run up to winter solstice has not been quite as heartstring tugging as it sometimes is in the dark of the year. Tomorrow is solstice and thereafter we welcome the sun’s slow return. This recipe was a nice hold over in the depth of the follow time.

Happy Fall & (almost) Halloween! The flowers, wild & cultivated, are hard at work on their season finale.

Last of the Dahlias, 2025! There were frightfully few blooms out of all 30 tubers… they were planted on my building lot with no water supply in an epic drought season. But, nonetheless, these little beauties persisted!

They’re all dug up now and ready for bed, hopefully to wake and find a well installed on our property in the spring!

Water Maple leaves on cotton Sateen. Fall is, by far, the best shape-hunting season.

This cyanotype panel came out beautifully, a very deep indigo, but I decided to tea-time it so it’s a gorgeous, earthy brown now - destined to become a throw-pillow panel.

I found some fascinating things to work with recently, including some large, largely eaten leaves that presented with a fascinating pattern of holes.

Cyanotype proves endless with its possibilities.

I thought I picked a ton of apples but somehow ended up with just 2 1/2 quarts of applesauce.

Because I was eating them? Yes.

Because year after year, I forget how many apples it really takes? Also, yes.

Nonetheless, apple picking season feeds me in so many ways. I’ll take it ;)

We’re in for a few days of rain (finally!), but I might try to make it back for more!

One of life’s greatest charms as an artist:

An urgent, unplanned dog walk on the road can become a joy, an inspiration & a history lesson.

Lunabelle and I stopped in Whitehall, NY at the Skenesborough Waterfront Park recently and found it to be such a hidden gem.

This park, tucked down a little unassuming side street, is full of beautiful features like a picnic pavilion and an outdoor theater… even a historic museum (which was, unfortunately, closed).

Beautiful gardens and so clean, this park also houses the remains of a very early American warship. This is outside and can be seen at any time.

Whitehall is the birthplace of the US Navy and although it’s a sleepy little town, which you will miss if you blink, it’s worth stopping for a stroll or lunch or just to take in some significant American history.

We were lucky enough to find several marvelous botanical shapes for my ongoing collection and developing pattern design work.

On the fly and not necessarily planning on shape hunting/botanical collecting, I was able to press them temporarily in my art journal….

Always my top choice for art journaling, the Dylusions creative journal by Ranger is so bombproof. The super heavy pages hold up to just about anything and can serve as a temporary flower press on the fly with the pages still remaining beautifully intact & ready for mixed media.

Today was the first day I’ve gone wandering properly in ages.

There couldn’t have been a better day for it.

Sunny.
Mild.
Colorful.

After being down and out for over a week with an unexpected (minor but very painful) surgery, feeling better was all the reason we needed.

Luna & I went on a southbound trip to @thedorsetequinerescue farm to visit our dearly departed Cleo, and stopped at this magical cemetery in #wallingfordvermont for a stroll.

A stroll turned into two hours.

The pond & fountain are mesmerizing. I saw so much life: frogs, fish of several kinds, salamanders, bees, water boatmen, snails, dragonflies, many eggs and one extra-spicy crawdad.

Climbing up the hill, the magic continued. The statue of this angel kneeling in prayer is just breathtaking.

I have seen her in years past, but not in many, and I found her more enchanting than ever.

I took great photos and collected a little bit of flora for some cyanotype work, hopefully tomorrow….

A few new ideas & things I’ve never tried. Stay tuned to see the outcome!

A friend of mine describes Luna as being “like a piece of jewelry” because she’s so pretty and unusual looking ;) But she’s ALL heart and a treasure every day.

Luna is just one year-old now, and such a good girl. She comes when I call. She can be off leash in places like this. She cracks me up and is the very best company. And bedfellow.

A year ago today our Cleo left us. So abruptly, and without warning. She was a gift in our lives for 8 years.

Today, Luna & I visited her on the mountain side where she’s buried and planted one more flower in her little garden: giant daisies, bee balm, echinacea, and now blue stock.

i’ve always been blessed with the most incredible dogs. Cleo was my companion in all things for a huge piece of my life.

Cleo is buried at a the Dorset Equine Rescue farm in southern Vermont where I volunteer & serve on the board. Since I laid her to rest there, there have been some pretty wild stories on two occasions of a dog spirit presenting to people on the hillside.

When this has happened, the invisible presence of a panting, happy dog has shown up and been sensed running around gleefully. This happened on two occasions to two different people, both of whom heard an excited dog, panting all around them. Both were kind of rattled when this happened, but we all came together to a shared understanding that it has to be Cleo.

She is laid to rest in the most beautiful and special place. Still missed. Still loved. Still with us ❤️

⏳ Another transition. Bumpier than planned, but I’m grateful to be in motion again. A lot has changed in the 3 1/2 years since I sold my last house and moved to this pretty apartment….

My sons were 10 & 13 when we came here. Now one is driving, honing his mechanical genius and working harder than many adults I know… while the other is fast-tracking to being a numbers wizard and golf pro.

I am continually impressed by these young men who were once my babies. Moving unearthed so many old photos, memories… so much perspective.

The days can drag but the years always fly.

As for me? I’m older, clearer and more real. Like fur-worn-off real, as described by the wise old horse in The Velveteen Rabbit.

I feel like I’ve aged 10 years in this place but truly, fewer fu@ks have never been given.

Huge shifts in career, love, health and how I see my future have accelerated here. I am surprised by how much I’m relishing what I once resisted.

Agency work > the stress of entrepreneurship.
Single + free > the stress of man-child reform.
Aging w/ grace > the stress of self-objectification.

And staying in the saddle to make my next move the one I really want - with more transitional upheaval than planned - it’s a no-brainer.

I bought this gorgeous piece of land here in Vermont last fall. 2 acres on a western-facing hillside in a darling, ideal neighborhood. I knew it was for us at first sight, and the boys were outgrowing our apartment fast.

After *finally* getting a 2nd tax return at my new job to support a construction loan, I began the permitting process only to find that the municipal utilities described in the MLS contract as “at the street” (and discussed at length) were… NOT THERE.

85K added to my project cost is a big detour & delay.

I moved mountains to make building our next home possible. While we were supposed to be breaking ground *now*, it could be a year or more before I get restitution for this misrepresentation and proceed.

It’s a massive disruption, bringing hardship to my life from many angles. I’m incensed with rage but also… calm. Because I can already see the outcome.

My hands are full, but my heart is fuller. Just look at this place 🤩

My sons were 10 & 13 when we came here. Now one is driving, honing his mechanical genius and working harder than many adults I know… while the other is fast-tracking to being a numbers wizard and golf pro.

I am continually impressed by these young men who were once my babies. Moving unearthed so many old photos, memories… so much perspective.

The days can drag but the years always fly.

As for me? I’m older, clearer and more real. Like fur-worn-off real, as described by the wise old horse in The Velveteen Rabbit.

I feel like I’ve aged 10 years in this place but truly, fewer fu@ks have never been given.

Huge shifts in career, love, health and how I see my future have accelerated here. I am surprised by how much I’m relishing what I once resisted.

Agency work > the stress of entrepreneurship.
Single + free > the stress of man-child reform.
Aging w/ grace > the stress of self-objectification.

And staying in the saddle to make my next move the one I really want - with more transitional upheaval than planned - it’s a no-brainer.

I bought this gorgeous piece of land here in Vermont last fall. 2 acres on a western-facing hillside in a darling, ideal neighborhood. I knew it was for us at first sight, and the boys were outgrowing our apartment fast.

After *finally* getting a 2nd tax return at my new job to support a construction loan, I began the permitting process only to find that the municipal utilities described in the MLS contract as “at the street” (and discussed at length) were… NOT THERE.

85K added to my project cost is a big detour & delay.

I moved mountains to make building our next home possible. While we were supposed to be breaking ground *now*, it could be a year or more before I get restitution for this misrepresentation and proceed.

It’s a massive disruption, bringing hardship to my life from many angles. I’m incensed with rage but also… calm. Because I can already see the outcome.

My hands are full, but my heart is fuller. Just look at this place 🤩

A most remarkable find: this giant moth met me on my walk to the grocery store a few years back at about this time of the year….

Such a beauty, but also so calm & friendly. I’ve never found this kind of moth before or after this day, but remember her fondly.

One of these days I’ll paint her.

So swoon-worthy! Canada lilies from a few years back in the Northeast Kingdom.

I’ve always found these beauties so enchanting, and the largest one that you see here is the largest one I’ve ever found posting I think 16 blossoms - VERY old!

The bulbs of this very interesting flower are a cluster of little “corms“, tiny bulbs, all glommed together in a big bundle. They are bright white and when you separate them, they look like little individual human teeth. Kinda weird.

These lilies get help in their propagation journey from logging operations. The little tiny “teeth” get picked up in the dirt with logs and then they get shaken off the trucks as they rumble along, which is why we find these so bountifully along old logging roads.

They are not quite as abundant in the midstate region of Vermont, where I live, but I know a few places to find them locally, so often partnered with maidenhair ferns.

All lovers of the early Eastern Sun, just like yours truly.

Hoping to find a few of these, and some maiden hair burns to move to my property soon, before everything gets too established.

I’m in the midst of a move. What was supposed to be from here (current apartment) directly to my new build, has turned into two stops in between…

Not thrilled about it, but this is life.

With all that’s been happening in the world of late, I’ve had such desire to offer more in my service-based / coaching & mentorship work. And…

… life has other plans for me right now, and they’re consuming. Moving my whole life into storage, camping for nine weeks, then moving into a furnished house for an unknown period of time…

When I add all that to my outside work in emergency mental health, I just don’t have any more commitment to offer the world. I wish it was otherwise, but all the wishing in the world won’t change it.

Still, I’m taking heart and circling back here, hoping to spend the small times between demands on perennial gardening, outdoor naps with my Lulu, some weekend adventures with my amazing sons & more creative work this season.

Still very grateful and excited and looking forward to being on the other side of the stuff that’s in the way.

This image is from my last alter-set in the place I’ve called Home for 3 1/2 years. So much change here, so much of it pushed forward by this archetype, the Sovereign Queen.

Curious that this little clump of cultivated flowers (crocus) are amidst the wild little patch of woods behind my home in the village.

This moment of Heiros-Gamos, feminine and masculine harmony, felt medicinal today.

It is so much of what’s off kilter just now - masculine & feminine out of synch. Spring is a great time to rebalance, like the earth & her consort, the Sun.

The Spring / Vernal Equinox is just days away now. The balance point of light and dark. It always feels magical to see the moon & sun in the sky at the same time - almost there.

I, too, am coming off the night shift. I took the slow road to the gym this morning, on a whim. I was rewarded handsomely.
